Character concepts were once utilised by High Reaches to differentiate between characters who were designed to add specific color to the Weyr and those who play more typically. However, we believe that all characters if created with a solid background and personality are concept characters, so have modified this section to list concepts we would most like to see complement the various personalities of our Weyr. We welcome characters with specific plot arcs that may limit the on-camera life of the character, as well as those whose concepts are more open ended.
Some of the concepts on this page relate more specifically to potential candidates, whilst others are more general, or even require characters who are not destined for search.
You may wish to glance over http://wiki.hrweyr.net/ for more information on some of the concepts listed below, as many relate to events that have occurred at various points in High Reaches’ history.
Background Concepts:
- Characters with ties to High Reaches Hold or its environs. These characters might have opinions on the weyr based on earlier dealings over the meteors; there will also be room for their opinions on the exiles, in our newest plot arc.
- Crafters of all kinds, either longtime weyr residents or newly posted to enjoy the Craft Complex. All crafters with a reason for being posted to the weyr are welcome, but we would specifically love:
- Smiths (Star/Glass/General)
- Woodcrafters
- Vintners
- Harpers
- Characters from Crom who have opinions on the relationship between their hold at the Weyr, with particular reference to the land deal and the earlier troubles involving these areas and Telgar Weyr.
General Character Ideas
- Weyrbred characters;
- Extroverted, gregarious characters who find it easy to interact with everyone;
- Older characters;
- Characters with strong beliefs about what’s Right and Wrong, although what falls into those categories could vary wildly and involve anything from morality to types of beer;
- Characters with vices that sometimes harm them;
- Characters with a strong sense of self, shaped by their life prior to coming on camera;
- Characters who want to shape their corner of the world;
- Characters who attempt to reinvent themselves upon coming to the weyr;
- Crafters who might accept search in the hopes of continuing in their craft after Impression as a craftrider;
- Characters beyond Search age who stood and never Impressed, or were never Searched, or simply had no interest in Search, and are now doing other things with their lives;
- Characters (riders or potential riders) who have specific plans for making the most of the freedoms available to Interval riders.
Specific Characters:
- A competent, career Assistant Headwoman;
- An ambitious older female rider annoyed by perceived sexism (you-have-one-female-wingleader-big-deal).
- A cynical older male rider who likes to make trouble/waves.
- An ambitious, Journeyman-level crafter seeking to unite and lead the weyr’s crafters and, as a result, gain influence within the weyr.
