High Reaches Weyr . PernMUSH: August 23, 2005 Sands Informational Meeting Search Cycle: Summer 2005 Sands Informational Meeting Aug 23, 2005 Candidate Barracks(#430RAJs$) Josilina notes, just as a heads up - please save questions for the end, I'll ask for them, and if I start going too fast, just let me know and I'll slow down. :) You say "And with that, let's get started. The log's running as well, as this will be posted online afterwards." You say "First off, the Hatching is on Saturday, August 27 at 8:00pm EST. If you can't make it you really must try and find a puppeteer for your character if you want to Impress. If you're not there, we can't do anything about it. And on the day of the hatching you should be in the barracks, desced in your robe and ready by 7:30pm EST. If you're going to need to leave early or be late let us know so we can plan around that if need be. Also have a backup puppeteer (or send us a temporary password that you've set up) if you think there's a chance you'll lose access." You say "The robes are just plain, simple, unadorned and white; sleeveless and between knee and mid-calf, length-wise. Sandals for footwear or barefoot if you'd like. Long hair should be tied back with a plain tie. No jewelry, knick-knacks, firelizards or any other extraneous things. Also no food or drink or anything. Someone will be in the barracks to inspect you all before you're brought to the sands." You say "If you want you can also set yourself opaque and your puppets/firelizards halt - that way you can have them on you but no one can tell. Or you can just leave them in the barracks. You can also set yourself halt to cut out any adesc messages or the like. Page idle messages are good things, if you want to set that up to let anyone who's paging you know that you're spammed and busy. Those're just set with '@idle me=Hatching spam, may be slow' - or something like that. There's also pagelocking but if you do that set it so S'rist, Satiet, Sria, the WLMs and I can still page you if there's a problem. If you need any help with any of this, just ask any of the admin or weyrlingmaster team to help you out." You say "As for on-sands behavior, a group bow pose will be emitted for you all, so you don't need to worry about it. Candidates form a loose semi-circle on the sands. Please don't pose touching any of the dragonets unless you've impressed him or her (and you'll know if you've Impressed) or it poses directly at you in a way that's really obvious that it's ok (like: Gooey Green Dragonet tumbles towards SmallCandidate, who could maybe help her up? - that's really bad, but you get the idea)." You say "The echo from the galleries will be turned off, so you won't get poses from there. Trust me, you don't want to, things will be spammy enough as is. Sands poses shouldn't be excessively long and try and keep them to about one per dragonet pose to keep the spam down. Feel free to pose NPC Candidates but please don't pose NPC Impressions, as we've already got emits lined up for each egg." You say "Also please don't pose needing a healer or any sort of medical disaster on the sands, unless you've cleared it ahead of time with S'rist and me." You say "If you Impress, like I said, you'll know it - you'll get a private message and if you're male, it'll tell you your honorific, and either gender it'll tell you your dragon's name. Then once you've posed your reaction and all one of the weyrling staff will guide you onto the weyrleaders ledge where you can interact some with your puppetted dragonet if you like and get the hang of things." You say "And... actually, that's more or less it. You can hear the sands from the ledge and there's a command you can use in any HRW call 'status' which will let you see the status of the hatching (when one's in progress). Does anyone have any questions about anything? Something I didn't cover that you're wondering about? Sorry if it went a bit fast. :)" Xeledyr has arrived. Tahiri says "Will there be, like, a pose order?" Satiet says "On the sands, no. Just try not to pose more than once per dragon/egg pose." Tahiri nods. Xeledyr slinks in, "Sorry for the lateness." Satiet says "And also don't forget to include the dragon name in your reaction should you Impress. Cause curious watchers like to know. :)" You say "It's okay. We're just wrapping up, actually - it's a quick thing. But it'll get posted online where you can read the information over." Savaughna says "And what happens if you don't impress. Should we hang around for some talk or log off in a huff? ;)" Xeledyr nods, "Ok." :^) Suraiya says "Are robe desc inspected right before the hatching or do we send 'em in to be okay'd?" V'rin nods, robe descs get inspected before everybody's let out. :) Satiet says "Hang out, imbibe our food and drink and get drunk on the Weyr's tab! I think Josilina, or me? Or someone will make a speech at the end and then everyone is let off to go to the celebration." Xeledyr grins, "What happens if the robe doesn't pass inspection?" Josilina chuckles. We'd prefer that you don't go off in a huff. :) ICly the Weyrleaders will give a little talk to those left standing. On the OOC end, we're perfectly willing to discuss the situation with you if you're left standing and you want, but we do insist that you wait until the next day. But after everyone's had a chance to rest, sleep on it, etc, we're glad to talk. Satiet says "They're inspected on the day of usually, but I think I recall sending mine in by +mail for a check up." Xeledyr nods. Josilina nods. You can send your robe in ahead of time if it's ready. But inspection happens day-of, and usually if there's something wrong it's pretty minor, and quick to tweak right before you go out. That's why we have you all here half an hour early. Cullen says "Will there be someone logging from, say, the galleries, so that we can get a feel for what happened there too (just later, after spam has gone away :) ?" Satiet says "If you have clients that can handle it, sometimes highlighting certain names makes things much easier. Like highlighting your own name in case someone talks to you or something, and those around you, or other candidates you're interested, or for instance Sruth in case you're afraid he'll come over and chomp." You say "Usually there is. I'll probably be in the galleries, and if so I'll log. And there's usually someone who gets the log from the ledges as well." Tahiri says ""Is it ok if we're a tad bit late? I'm pretty sure I'll be on time, but my clock is a couple of minutes off, so..." Josilina nods. The half-hour early assembling also leaves time for that sort of thing. If you think you -will- be late by a significant amount, you should let us know, and maybe even set up a puppeteer just incase. But a few minutes doesn't matter too much. Xeledyr raises his hand, "Josilina, what happens if we can't find a puppeteer for the hatching? Would it be possible to give you the password and you find someone to do it?" Josilina nods. Yes. If you can't find anyone, send me your password, and I'll make sure you're on the sands one way or another. Xeledyr nods, "Cool. I know I'll be able to make it bar ADSL being down, so I'm available to puppet if people need one. But wanted to know what the deal was with that." Josilina nods. "It's good to check. - Anyone else have any questions? You can always page/+mail me later if something comes to you after." Tahiri says "How exactly does puppeting work? Is there a lot of coding to it?" You say "Puppeting another character? You just send a person a temporary password (you can set new passwords for your character by doing @password oldpassword=newpassword) and they log you in. It can help too, if you send them some generic pre-written poses, or give them some insights on your char, so they can play you better." Satiet is pageable too! Though, if the question's too hard I reserve the right to just point to Josilina. :) Suraiya apologizes for running off. Hope to catch some RP later if I get computer access. I'll make sure to get to a computer hatching day, even if I gotta dodge traffic or tie my roomie up. ^^' Thanks for the meeting, got a few things down for later, too ^^; Suraiya hugs all. Be back later, 'm hoping. Suraiya has disconnected. Tahiri says "Ahh. Ok. I was thinking it would be something like regular puppets.... ok then. :)" Xeledyr doesn't think he's got anymore questions. :^) Josilina nods. "Alright then - I'll close the log up. Thanks for coming!" Satiet smooches around and leaves all the snacks and goodies.
