High Reaches Weyr . PernMUSH: September 7, 2006 OOC Search Meeting Search Cycle: Autumn 2006 Search Information Meeting Sept 7, 2006 Public announcement: Satiet announces "We'll be starting the OOC Search meeting for HRW about nowish! @tel #430 if you're interested in applying or are interested in the process in general. :) Snacks and drinks provided. ;)" L'sen has arrived. L'sen woohoo, first! Satiet was first, nyeah. XD S'rist has arrived. S'rist shows up with a fruit plate. L'sen was first that's not running the meeting. XD Bayan has arrived. Satiet has fudge and wine. XD Bayan snickers. Satiet will wait a few more minutes before starting. :) Plus I have to get dinner on the table for the SO, lest he make pookie faces at me. Jendayi has arrived. Vertai has arrived. Satiet tosses some more throw pillows around and passes around the fruit plate and fudge. XD "So, hey! And welcome. :) This is the first session of: what you wanted to know about High Reaches' upcoming Search cycle and hopefully aren't afraid to ask about. We welcome questions, and if you have any further questions either after the meeting or what not, please feel free to page myself, Josilina, or other members of the admin team." Jendayi waves and lays claim to some fudge. "Thanks." :) You say "Our schedule can be found on http://search.hrweyr.net/ or +lhelp search calendar from any Weyr-parented room. We try to keep both updated the same but if you notice any discrepancies, feel free to ping myself. :)" You say "You'll notice that our OOC Search period is actually starting prior to our gold flight. We've been working on ways to transition towards a faster-paced, more true to the books style of Search in terms of time frame. This means that it is crucial for applicants to be on as often as possible during the first few days after the clutching, and on prior. The cycle stands at about 3.5 weeks to 4 right now." You say "We're also hoping the abbreviated cycle makes this experience a lot more fun for our candidates. :)" M'wen has arrived. You say "Though the application is on the site, we will not be officially accepting applications until September 13th. :) This gives you time to work out characters, dwell over the apps, consider whether you want to apply here (we are fabulous, let me emphasize that ;) /modesty), and just generally gives a space of breather between this informational and the time when you can actually press submit on applications." You say "The gold that is rising is Josilina's Lhiannonth, and it is a predetermined leadership flight, with a few surprises tossed in from our goodie bag. The flight is tentatively planned for the second to last weekend of this month and will be on camera as scheduling allows." Satiet pauses. "Any questions? Bueller? ^^" Bayan shakes head, "Sounds good to me." Jendayi shakes her head. "All clear, here." Vertai smiles and settles back on a convenient throw. "I think I'm good thus far." Satiet wasn't sure if I was going too fast. Sweet! Ok, so our hatching window is November 10 - 19, with weyrlinghood taking approximately 2 months after that timeframe. With it being over the holiday period, we realize this may be difficult for many people, due to well vacation planning and the like, and hope to help accommodate those who Impress. So it may take a few weeks longer. Just FYI for your own scheduling and time management purposes. You say "We will be accepting applications for all colors this time, including gold." You say "One of the things about Search at High Reaches that got me interested initially was this idea of concept characters. For a long time, I had trouble wrapping my head around it, but basically, it's a different sort of Impression path." You say "Rather than the typical standards that include activity levels and the like, the qualities that we tend to look at for concept characters are creativity, proactivity (which is slightly different from activity), and the desire to add that certain something-something to RP at the Weyr." You say "It's a chance for a lot of people to try and extend beyond their usual character types, and certain opportunities are open to concept characters, such as dying in weyrlinghood, sustaining life-long injuries in weyrlinghood, or being minor or major players in plots we've had here in the past. I was lucky and they let me try out my concept here. :) And in the past we've had a lot of different kinds of concept character players and we totally welcome more." You say "If you've ever watched shows on USA Network, like the 4400 /shameless plug, High Reaches Weyr has a policy of: Characters welcome. ;)" Jendayi raises a hand. You say "The needs of the Weyr and character balance also plays into concept characters. So if we get a huge influx of a certain type of personality, we may be less inclined to Impress that concept than another type." You say "What's up? ^^" Jendayi says "When you say concept characters, are you describing more adoptable NPCs, as in the Weyr has concepts it would like to be played for this cycle and suggests them, or are they more what are typically known on WoD games as "feature characters"?" You say "They're not quite like either. We don't have an adoptable NPC roster here and we have no list of concepts we'd like played currently. Feature characters also carry with them a certain activity level requirement, if I recall correctly. XD Basically, concept character here is just a difference in how a character's Impression is viewed. There's the usual way, where activity levels, general roleplay, etc... are looked at, while concepts could possibly play twice a week, but those two times a week some element is added to the Weyr. In terms of concept characters, and I think someone can correct me if I'm wrong since it's a term I struggle to define outside of my head, we're looking for people who might just want to play a type of character off and on, maybe not constantly, not every day, maybe not even every week, but one who can somehow still spark creative RP whenever they decide to play." Satiet spams. Sorry. XD Satiet gets repetitive too apparently. Woops. Jendayi ahhs. "Alright, thank you. It wasn't quite clicking in my mind but that clarifies. And this concept can be an existing character or a new one?" You say "If that doesn't quite answer it, I'd be happy to chat about it afterwards. Or anyone else. :)" You say "Yes." Satiet was a concept character, because I wasn't really sure how often I'd want to play someone like Satiet, and whether someone like this character would be acceptable and fit well at this Weyr. I'd like to still think I'm a concept character as I haven't deviated much from the original idea, even if the character's grown far beyond that. :) Jendayi says "Gotcha. Thanks!" Bayan says "I know I created Bayan as a concept character and has played him as such, so I was wondering a bit on that too. Thanks for the clarification. :)" You say "I think that covers most of the general questions we get. ;) I know, the concept of concept characters confused me at first so if you have more questions regarding that, feel free to ping at any time. :)" Vertai says "And one chooses how one wishes to be evaluated? Or are both... rubrics, operative for every applicant?" You say "There tends to be two distinct standards in concept char or not, but it's only human that sometimes they overlap depending on situation, character, and concepts in question." Satiet peeks about. Now that I've spammed everyone and confused people to boot, I'm and my ever silent cohorts are open to any questions. :) Jendayi grins. "That answered my one question and I am officially unconfused now." Bayan chuckles and thinks you answered all his as well. :) S'rist remains silent, probably because he's been munching fudge the whole time. Satiet grins, "Splendid. Sometimes, it makes sense in the head but not quite on paper. Any questions regarding the process? We don't make anyone stand on their head, promise. We're aiming for short'n sweet, fun (cause that's what games are for!), and interesting. :)" Satiet mmm. Satiet is saving mine for after dinner. Vertai smiles. "Those sound like laudable goals. I think I'm fine for now, though I may page you later about the concept character thing." M'wen says "You summed it up pretty nicely, makes me disappointed I missed the meeting when I was applying." Satiet packs everyone home with a bundle of fudge and a flagon of wine. Bayan nods and takes some fudge too. "I'll be sure to page for questions." :) Jendayi yays, take-out! "Thanks again. :) Jendayi has left. Vertai chuckles and gathers up his prezzies. "Thanks for doing this. It's nice to see everything laid out." You say "No problem. ^^v" Satiet scoots off to put some food in my own tummy for real now. Thanks for coming! And a log will be posted. Bayan heads off and waves! Vertai smiles and waves. Vertai has left. Bayan has left. S'rist says "Thanks all for coming. :)"
