Sands Informational Meeting
Nov 15, 2006
Candidate Barracks(#430RAJs$)
Satiet turns on the OOC lamp and sprawls flat to wait a few moments.
Kasiese sleeps on the keyboard in the meanwhile.
Satiet sets out trays of the new Hershey's mint chocolate kisses and sits back.
Satiet says, "Since there's going to be quite a bit of information, I'd like to ask that you hold questions till the end. :) If I go too fast, please page and I'll try to slow down."
Satiet bounces. The hatching will be this Saturday, November 18th at 8:30PM Eastern. This translates to, for the benefit of myriad timezones we seem to have this time around:
Australia Queensland: Nov 19, 11:30AM
Australia Sydney: Nov 19, 12:30PM
UK London: Nov 19, 1:30AM
South Africa: Johannesburg: Nov 19, 3:30AM
USA PST: Nov 18, 5:30PM
Satiet says, "If you have any questions as to when the hatching might be for your time, this site is incredibly handy: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html (Just use USA - Washington DC for Eastern timezone) Other questions on time, please direct to myself, Josilina, and R'hin. :)"
Dassah says "Mint.. Chocolate.. Kisses... *cries* Can I come home now? :)"
Satiet says, "They are -awesome-. :) Seasonal, tasty. So minty. ^^"
Satiet presses forward.
Satiet says, "If you can't make it, please try and find a puppeteer by +bbposting to the hrw-hatch board, or asking one of your friends. If you are not there, it will be difficult to Impress you. As an absolute last resort, if you cannot find anyone at all to puppet you, please contact R'hin, Josilina, and Satiet and we will try to help figure something out for you. :)"
Satiet says, "In general, it is probably a good idea to have someone be your back up at any rate. Just in case. Just in case the power goes out, or your net is flakey, or a gust of wind blows you to Oz. Etc..."
Satiet says, "Also, if you are only available during certain times, such as you'll have to leave early, or won't be able to actually be there until a bit later (but of course you'll have a puppeteer out on the sands until then, right?), also inform us. :)"
Satiet says, "Asking someone to puppet you is as simple as temporarily changing your password the day of and making sure they know how to log in as you. You might also consider sketching out a few poses so they'll know how your character acts and who they might be standing next to. If you need help on changing your password, feel free to page me. :)"
Satiet says, "Robes. ICly, the baskets of robes will be set in the candidate barracks shortly. Some of you may have already started roleplaying around the mending of and attempting to fit your robe better. They should be plain, simple, unadorned white sacks, sleeveless, with holes for the neck and head, arms, and your legs and are generally between the knee and mid-calf. There are sandals for footwear, which we highly recommend. Long hair should be pulled back and out of the face simply, and there should be no jewelry, knick-knacks, firelizards, or _anything_ else with you on the sands. It'll just be you, your shapeless white sack robe (no tie/belt), and your sandals. There will also be no food or drink on the sands. ;)"
Satiet says, "Descing robes and descing yourself wearing said robe is optional. Since we're all MUSHing anyway, the let's pretend game isn't so far fetched. :) If you would like to desc one, by all means *please* feel free to go ahead, but understand it is not a requirement anymore. If you do desc one, we ask that you have it checked prior to the hatching by +mailing it to M'wen and Satiet."
Satiet pauses, "Any questions yet?" ^^
Tavrie shakes her head.
Bayan unidles finally and asks, "Do we need to be there an hour before the time or does it matter?"
Satiet will get to that. ;)
Satiet says, "I have made a candidate hatching code guide for various little things: how to set yourself opaque, how to page lock yourself, how to set your idle, as well as SimpleMU-based commands that might make the spam insanity that is a hatching a lot easier to swallow. You can go to: http://hatchfaq.hrweyr.net/ If you have any questions in regards to this FAQ or have other code-related questions, please feel free to ask me. Basically, you -should- leave all items (objects) in the barracks before you head out to the sands. This includes firelizard objects. Drop them. :) 'drop ' where you replace with your lizard's name. ;) This is also in the hatching code FAQ."
Satiet waves her little SimpleMU flag. I don't know the other clients as well, but if you want to know how to highlight things in Savitar, MUSHClient, or TinyFugue, please feel free to ask and we'll find someone appropriate to help you. :)
Satiet does note that highlighting and spawning things off (as far as I know SimpleMU is the only client capable of spawning things off) makes the hatching a lot easier to digest without having to turn everything off such as pages, channel chatter and the like.
Satiet says, "If you have questions regarding the mini hatching code FAQ thing, feel free to send them my way."
Satiet says, "With the hatching at 8:30PM EST, we would like all candidates to be online by 8PM so we can get organized and get you all on the sands exactly at 8:30PM. We'd *really* like to start on time and this half hour will allow us to get things all ready candidate-wise. :)"
Satiet says, "If that answers your question, Baye. ;)"
Bayan snickers, "Thanks." ;)
Satiet says, "ICly, there will be a bustle of activity all day as the riders become aware that the hatching will be sometime -soon-. So, you will be very aware that the day, time, hour, minute, second is drawing nearer and some of you might even be assigned to help prepare food for the feast - in case you'd like to play around that rather than your assigned chore throughout the day on Saturday. Maybe your relatives will have already come. You will, however, not know when exactly this will begin."
Dassah says "If anyone needs help with TinyFugue, not that likely anyone else uses it, but I'm pretty close to expert. =)"
Satiet woot. "Thanks, Dassah." :)
Satiet says, "On the sands, there will be a group bow posed for you that will also make mention of your white robes whether you have desced on or not. ;) I understand it's difficult sometimes to figure out what to pose when someone's already posed a bow for you, but I tend to jump straight to the slipping yourself into the loose semi-circle and start the sweaty fidgeting. ;)"
Satiet says, "You will all, ICly, bow to Lhiannonth and Leiventh and form a loose semi-circle around the eggs in this group pose. Please do not pose touching any of the dragonets or eggs unless you have Impressed to him or her (and you will definitely know when you've Impressed). Please do not pose NPC candidates getting injured or yourselves, for that matter, unless you have cleared it in advanced (way prior, not the day of the hatching) with Josilina, R'hin, and Satiet. Also, please do not pose NPC candidates Impressing, as they will also be taken care of. :) You may pose your NPCs, but do not feel it necessary to if you are overwhelmed by the fast-pacedness and focus on your character instead. :)"
Satiet says, "The galleries will not echo onto the sands, so you will not see the audience reaction, but this is a blessing, trust me. ;) We will try to get a gallery view hatching log up in the case you'd like to see what was going on up there while you were down on the sands. :)"
Satiet says, "Poses should not be excessively long. We'd prefer them to be somewhere less than 8 lines with your name prepended. So please try not to emit -- this will help us stay sane in trying to figure out if Someone posed or not. And if you must, put your name in there somewhere. :) Also, please keep one pose per dragon/egg pose. You do not have to pose once every time, but do let us know you're alive by posing consistently. ;) Beyond that (one pose per a dragonet/egg pose), there is no pose order on the sands."
Satiet says, "If you Impress, you'll get a private message that no one else will get. It will tell you your honorific if you are a male, and your dragon's name. Please try to include the name in your pose afterwards, everyone will be breathlessly waiting to hear who you're bonded with. :) Once you've posed your reaction, the weyrlingmaster staff will guide you onto the Weyrleaders' Ledge where you can interact some more with your puppetted dragon and try to relax. ;)"
Satiet says, "The Weyrleaders' Ledge will not get emits from the sands as far as I know, if you would like to watch the rest of the hatching, might I suggest adding +watch on hrw-sands before going out there. :)"
Satiet says, "Your Weyrlingmaster staff this time will be I'daur as WLM, as well as his capable assistants: Maja and M'wen."
Satiet says, "So be on the look out for them directing you to the various places you should be should you Impress."
Satiet says, "In the case you do not Impress, please realize that this cycle was especially active and you all are absolutely *wonderful* but there are game limits to how many people we can Impress. If you do not Impress, please wait until the Weyrleaders have made a speech on the sands and join us for more RP in the living caverns: food to be eaten, people to meet and all. If you would like to speak with the Weyrleaders OOCly after the hatching, we would prefer that you wait to ask until the day after, to allow everyone, including you and all those working behind the scenes, to rest a bit. But we're always happy to and open to talking with you."
Satiet thinks that's about it, if you have questions? I forgot to cover something? Or anything at all?
Dassah had a question, but has forgotten it. Lemme peek back to see if I can remind myself. :)
Dassah says "Oh!"
Dassah says "So, for those that Impress, will the dragonets continue to be puppeted a while, or will they be turned over at Impression?"
Satiet says, "It will be on a case by case basis. Some people enjoy puppeting them all the way until the Impressee has to log off. And it's fun, really, to have the dragon interact with you when it's not played by you. ;) Basically, the puppeteer if they cannot stay long or have to go off and do something else, like puppet another dragon, they might page you to see if it's ok to turn it over to you completely."
Satiet says, "If you need to run, and would like to own your dragon before you go, page Josilina or myself and we'll get the puppeteer to page you. :)"
Satiet amends that, if you need to run or would just prefer to take ownership immediately, page either of us. :)
Satiet says, "And one of us will get back to you as soon as we can."
Satiet says, "We do try to encourage puppeteers and Impressees to spend a few minutes interacting. You only Impress once, right? :)"
Satiet says, "Did that answer your question?"
Dassah says "Yes, thank you. :)"
Satiet claps, "Anything else? Questions, comments, suggestions? Did you guys have any suggestions to make candidacy more enjoyable next time?"
Kasiese just has to mention that this is like, the single best group I've ever been with. Like, ever. <3
Dassah ha absolutely and utterly adored this group of Candidates, and come what may, hopes that we all get to play together more after the Hatching, cause they all rock. =)
Satiet says, "Oh, so no one is confused on the day of the hatching. You will be guided from the barracks to the Weyrleaders' ledge and from there onto the sands. Just FYI. So congregate here by 8PM. :)"
Satiet says, "So we don't have to go holler in page to you guys. ;)"
Satiet says, "We'll be progressing the room plot thing a bit further post hatching, just FYI again. :)"
Bayan dittos and agrees with Kasiese and Dassah. :) "And I look forward to the room plot going again."
Tavrie nodnods.
Dassah yays for that! And has some things that will come into play after the hatching, too. =)
Satiet says, "If there are no more questions, I shall close the log up and work to toss it on the page. If you have any further questions in regards to the hatching please +mail Josilina, R'hin, or myself. Any thoughts and suggestions about candidacy to myself and M'wen. :) Any questions about the Hatching FAQ thing, to me. :)"
Bayan nods, "Will do, Satiet." :)
Tavrie nods. "Thank you.
Satiet turns off the OOC light and flutters off.
Satiet forgot something. :X
Satiet says, "Go figure."
Bayan snickers.
Kasiese dies.
Satiet says, "Throughout the hatching, it'll be hard to remember who Impressed and who didn't and sometimes it might be difficult to pay attention to anything that isn't either directed at you or posed at you. XD"
Satiet says, "We have a dandy little command so you can keep track of the hatching as it progresses: 'status'"
Satiet says, "It doesn't show anything right now, which is y'know good, since there's no hatching right now. :) But that's it! Really. :)"
M'wen loves 'status' :)
Bayan says "Sounds good to me!"
Satiet says, "Ok, that's it for me, really. XD Back to your IC-dom and your various RPs and punishments. ;)"
